The Nissan DataScan II for Android is intended for newer Nissan cars equipped with 16 pin OBDII connecter and use Consult II protocol over K line (DDL2). The connector is usually located near the fuse box. A list of cars that the software has been tested on is located on the page. The list is by no means comprehensive and is constantly being updated as new vehicles are tested. The NDSII application supports both, petrol and diesel cars. It communicates with the engine ECU using Consult II protocol.

It uses the same communication protocol as the dealer diagnostic tool. This protocol is far more comprehensive than the generic OBDII protocol. Following functions are currently available: Data Display with Data Logging, Self Diagnostics, Work Support, Dash Display with customizable gauges and Video Recorder.
It requires a Bluetooth adaptor that utilises the ELM327 chip for communication. They can be purchase from automotive Internet stores or eBay. NOTE: There is a number of new adaptors from China with fake ELM327 v2.1 chip. Those adaptors do not have all required commands and are not supported. For a list of tested adaptors please visit page. The Nissan DataScan II app supports factory Nissan engine ECUs. Aftermarket ECUs like Apexi Power FC or F-Con V Pro are not compatible with this app.
With consult you can do active tests which are temporary such as adding offset to ignition timing or fuel injection%. But u cant permanently save anything to the ECU you can enter base idle mode which stops the ecu adjusting the idle and ignition timing so it allows you to both set correct timing (using timing light and adjustig the distributor etc), and then idle speed with idle screw etc. It works on most cars with the consult plug (most new models after 89) and stopped around 96 in USA with obd2, and last models around 2000 (eg s15, r34) elsewhere.
